Prompt #230 (finally!) here at [info]slashthedrabble is "Curse", as suggested by [info]literati.

Drabbles of 100 words and ficlets of 200, 300, 400 and 500 words exactly are acceptable, and please use cut tags. Have fun!

Also, as this is a multi-fandom community, please remember to add a header mentioning which fandom(s) and pairing(s) you are drabbling in. Thanks. :D

A new challenge will be posted around midnight EST on the 18th November, 2009. (That's 5am on the 19th, London time.) Feel free to drop a reminder comment here if it looks like I've forgotten (again).

Suggestions for future prompts are always welcome. The list of previous prompts can be found here.

We've made some additions and improvements to Notes!

The Notes feature has been added to two action-taking pages:
  • You can now add a Note directly on the Add a friend page - handy if you'd like to mark down where you met them or another name you know them by!
  • On the Ban and unban users page (under Account -> Privacy) you can now add a Note, including to a group of users all banned at the same time (so that next year you won't need to ask yourself "hey, why did I ban these guys?")

Other changes:
  • When you're viewing your existing Notes they're grayed out; click in a field to activate it to change the text (this page can be found from the header by using Profile -> Manage Notes)
  • Changes to editing:
    • When you're going to create a new Note but one already exists, you'll get a warning that you're editing an existing Note
    • You can now delete a note from the "Edit note" pop-up in the hover menu
    • You can now delete notes for multiple selected users on the Manage notes page
    • When you change Notes on "Ban|unban users" page, they can be edited and saved with "Save Changes" button

Notes augmented

We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!

Product tweaks and bug kill

  1. In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
  2. If you sign up to get notifications of the Writer's Block question of the day, you'll now see the daily question in the email notification, so you'll have a little extra time to ponder before you post. You can subscribe to Writers Block notifications here
  3. The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
  4. If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
  5. If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
  6. Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)

New FCK fixes rich text editor!

  1. We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
  2. When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
  3. RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
  4. An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
  5. The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers

LiveJournal Cares

We’re pleased to introduce you to [info]lj_cares, a new LiveJournal community dedicated to raising awareness and funds for U.S. charitable organizations that improve the health and well-being of people around the world. Each month, we’ll spotlight a nonprofit that is making a significant global impact through medical research, public outreach, and/or humanitarian social programs. Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit [info]lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.

Title: Something Grim This Way Comes
Gaining Access: Unlocked
Author: Ruskbyte
Crossover Fandom: The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy
Length/Word Count: 22,731
Alternate Links to Fic/Art: Here
Pairing: Harry/Mandy, The Grim Reaper
Rating: T
Author's Website: Ruskbytes' Website
Author's Summary: Harry is about to start his first year at Hogwarts. With him comes his cynical, somewhat unofficial (not to mention bent on world domination) girlfriend; Mandy. And they're also bringing their mutual best friend (i.e.: indentured servant) the Grim Reaper himself.

Why everyone should read this: The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy was a TV show that aired on the Cartoon Network about how a little boy and girl who challenged Death himself to a game of high-stakes limbo, won, and became the proud owners of The Grim Reaper's soul for all eternity. So, we have Mandy (or, evil incarnate), Billy (he, with an IQ of -5), and Grim (who, for some reason speaks with a Jamaican accent), at the center of this funny, somewhat cracky, and sometimes disturbing show.

In this crossover fic Harry pretty much replaces Billy, as he, Mandy, and Grim head off to Hogwarts; where their presence proceeds to freak out pretty much everyone they run into. Harry, as a character, is a wonderful addition to this crazy little show; his relationship with Mandy and Grim are both very well done.

NCISexy... )

Highlights?

Michael Weatherly would prefer it if Gibbs was a bit "bi-curous" :p

And a TV Guide Magazine editor actually types the words "incest is best"!

Title: Comfortable Streets
Author: [info]liseuse
Length/Word Count:
Alternate Links to Fic/Art: none found
Character: Pansy
Rating: PG-13
Author's summary: After that dreadful incident before the last battle where can Pansy Parkinson go? More importantly, where can she feel at home? What does home even mean in these dark days?
Author's Website: the author's LJ & at DW
Why everyone should read this: This fic explores Pansy's life and how she copes after the battle at Hogwarts. It's not a happy fic, but it is beautifully written and contains a lot of truth about the ways in which people try - and inevitably fail - to escape their pasts through travel.

Title: Pansy
Artist: draykonis
Rating: PG
Character: Pansy
Artist's Website: the artist's LJ & on deviantART
Why you chose this piece: Draykonis is a master at drawing art with fantastic characterization in all the details, and this picture is exactly the way I imagine Pansy as an adult: confident, predatory and totally in control. I love the pose, the quintessentially Slytherin clothes, and the background with her corporate chair and skyscrapers.

ART: Next Gen - Lorcan/Lysander/Lily Potter by [info]_aurora_sky_
Title: Lorcan/Lysander/Lily Potter | currently unlocked, but the artist may be f-locking it in the next few weeks
Gaining Access: Once it is under f-lock, you will need to request [info]_aurora_sky_ friend your journal to access.
Artist: [info]_aurora_sky_
Alternate Links to Fic/Art: none
Pairing: Lorcan/Lysander/Lily Potter
Rating: NC-17
Author's Website: The artist's Masterlist
Why you should chose this piece::
The artist's style is simply gorgeous. She has wonderful lines and colours that make her art really 'pop' out at you. She rarely draws anything quite this explicit and frankly, it is jaw-dropping. A delicious twincest threesome that will take your breath away.

Title: Home
Author: Galadriel ([info]caras_galadhon)
Fandom: Sharpe
Pairing: Sharpe/Harper (implied Sharpe/Tom Garrard, Sharpe/Jane Gibbons)
Rating: PG
Archive: Lothlorien and [info]sons_of_gondor.
Feedback: Always appreciated.
Disclaimer: I may march over the hills and far away alongside Richard Sharpe, but Bernard Cornwell, the lucky, lucky man, owns the rogue, not me.
Summary: It was strange how distant places and people could come to mean home to a man.
Notes: Written for the [info]seans_50 October Film Challenge using Sharpe's Challenge as inspiration. Also written for the "Seringapatam" challenge prompt (#16) at [info]sharpe_thinking and for [info]alex_quine, as an extremely late Halloween treat I owe her for "knocking" on my virtual!door last year. D'oh!

(In a lot of ways, coming back to India to find Harper was like coming home...)

ART REC: Draco/Hermione - Clark Gable, by [info]bk11
Title: Clark Gable
Artist: [info]bk11
Rating: PG
Pairing: Draco/Hermione
Artist's Website: bk11's profile at LJ
Why you chose this piece:

Admittedly, I'm a little biased here, because I adore the Postal Service - it's wonderful to see the song done beautiful justice. The quality of the art is almost lyrical & the scroll frame adds a fun interactive element to the piece.

Fandom: Highlander
Pairing: Duncan/Methos, Duncan/Tessa, Duncan/Amanda
Length: ~6500
Author on LJ: [info]mmmchelle
Author Website: Chelle's Nightstand
Why this must be read: It's difficult to pick just one of Chelle's fics to rec, but this one is my favorite. This is a bittersweet and angsty au, where Duncan meets Methos about 175 years earlier than he does on the show. Chelle begins this with Methos meeting up with Duncan and Tessa under his cover of a Watcher and introduced by Joe. It follows with Tessa's eventual death and Methos rushing to comfort Duncan and the aftermath to that. This is the story of a Methos who is in love with Duncan and does what he can to make Duncan's life better. This is a Duncan who doesn't quite know what he wants or needs, but does know that Methos makes him feel better. And in the end, this is the story where Duncan realizes that he waited too late to figure out what Methos needs from him. With strong appearances by Tessa, Joe and Richie and a cameo by Amanda this is not a happy love story. It is still powerful and full of strong emotions.

I'm so dead beat right now -- and I have a sore throat and am cranky.

But Marilyn [info]mistressmarilyn and I did split a beer when she finally got home from the office at 7:00. She told me she'd felt so lousy this morning she was thinking she wouldn't be able to go to work -- and then she's there late. Typical!

She, too, is worn out. It was her idea that we have a beer, which we've both earned today!

This was supposed to be my day to sleep in and take it easy, but I had IT work first thing this morning and then got in to do things and just stuck with it all day. I was still working when Marilyn got home.

It was a funny sight, with two laptops set up on the desk, another on a rolling stool, and our two desktops across the room. At one point I was literally working on all five computers at once! Now how much more IT related can you get?

I dropped my website jump drive and the outside case broke. I couldn't get it back together, so I had to transfer all the files to another jump. (sigh) I was pretty shook up at that point. And I had one of those flu headaches (still have a little one), so I was a mess at that point. The old website jump was blue and the new one is white (like my IT jump), so it's going to be confusing, I'm sure. (damn)

And I was hunting for one of the two PowerPoint jump drives (where we keep all of the many PowerPoints we've created), but I couldn't find either of them. Marilyn had one at work, but I've no clue where the other one is! I wanted to use them to test a PowerPoint on our new Presentation laptop to finish the process of setting it up... (I still need to do that, by the way, so I'm not done for the night!)

I can't wait to go take a nap and maybe read a little in my book...

And I've got a busy day (with meetings) set up for tomorrow, so I should try and get a decent night's rest if possible.

But don't get me wrong -- I do love my work! I'll be hauling three computers to work tomorrow, but it's all good! (smile)
